A World in Transition: Insights from Transition Hub - A Heartfelt Thank You to T-Hub

2020 has changed all of our lives and perspectives, probably more so than any other year we have experienced. For me, however, 2019 was also a year of great change and adjustment. But I got through it with the help of the wonderful Transition Hub program.

Here I want to share how the program helped me deal with both personal and professional situations, and to express my deep and heartfelt gratitude to the program’s principals, Karen Thomas and Louise Watts, for the life-changing lessons learned during their transition program.

How Transition Hub helps people change their lives

I recently wrote an article about the excellent Transition Hub program and how it had helped me deal with some unusual situations during my transition to working online. Transition Hub, or T-Hub as it is affectionately known, offers a career transitioning program like no other. It is far deeper than how to get a new job if you’ve been made redundant; it has relevance for everyone! It gives you the skills and tools to cope with adversity and think on your feet by learning to embrace transformation. The vital skills the program teaches can be put into practice in just about any change-in-work situation. However, as I found out, the strategies taught by T-Hub also helps hugely in coping with challenges in our personal lives too.

Transition Hub found me at the right time

I took the T-Hub course in August 2019, a month before my Dad lost his six-month battle with cancer. Ever since his diagnosis, I had been flying every two weeks between my base in Sydney and my childhood family home in Perth to see him and help to navigate the medical system, steering the course with lawyers as my Dad sought compensation for the asbestos-related cancer James Hardie had knowingly exposed him to, the tying of loose ends with his accountant, and transferring deeds and titles.

At the same time, I was running my own business and being a mother to my two children aged eight and ten, with a husband who travelled extensively. It was tough.

T-Hub gave me a week of calm reflection in the middle of this hard time, in a group of 23 people — each of us learning more about ourselves, our talents and how we show up in the world, as well as putting new skills into practice.

I finished the course the day before flying back to Perth to spend my Dad’s last month with him. These final four weeks were a beautiful time of tears, laughter and raw honesty between us. But it presented challenges. Without Transition Hub, I would not have been able to cope with the behaviour of some of my family members who struggled to be their best selves (my brother is a drug addict and self-control has never been his strong point), or to be fully present for my Dad.

Transition Hub gave me patience and an increased empathy for others, as well as the reflective abilities I needed to get through the experience of losing the man who was my first ever hero - my dear Dad.

Thank you, T-Hub

None of us can predict what life is going to throw at us. This is why we need the right skills to deal with adversity, to stay centered during times of upheaval and change. Transition Hub eased the transition into the next phase of my life.

My heartfelt thanks and gratitude go to Karen and Louise. Thank you for being exactly what I needed, and for helping me in so many ways. My T-Hub experience will travel with me into the future.
